January 26th marks the start of the Chinese New Year celebration. According to the Chinese Zodiac calendar, 2009 is the Year of the Ox. People throughout China, and all over the world are celebrating the new year. Thousands will make the long journey home to be with their families during the festivities. This is the holiday of holidays in China.
The CCAA, the governmental agency that oversees the international adoptions in China, will be closed throughout the "Chinese New Year" celebration. No news is expected for at least another week. I expect us to be waiting 80 days + for our LOA...but a surprise would be nice ;-) Hopefully Elli is having a wonderful time as the sounds of the celebrations are sure to echo the halls of her orphanage.
My mom's appointment last week and rescheduled for today. It was decided that she would have her surgery on Friday morning. Thank you for your prayers and kind emails. We ask for your continued prayers for her surgery and recovery.

It may be good that your LOA has not arrived since your mom needs you right now. I know this is not the news you are wanting to hear, and it is hard to have your heart in two places at the same time. I'll remind you of what you already know - God's timing is always the very best.
With our first adoption, we could not figure out what was taking so long, but here's the "behind the scenes" story. I was pregnant with my fourth son at the time, and since this was a surprise pregnancy, we did not tell the agency for fear of jeopardizing Ruthie's adoption. My husband planned to travel alone since travel time would arrive just about the time our baby was due. To make an awful story short, the baby came 5 weeks early and was born with multiple disabilities. He died six hours later, and we were devastated. When our travel time finally arrived, it was 9 weeks later, and we were both able to go. It was necessary for us to be together, and God orchestrated the timing just right. It was a sad journey, but we were together in the joy and the sorrow.
