Thankfully QiaoQiao is feeling better today. We were up the majority of the night last night with her vomiting and just feeling really bad. I was unsure about taking her downstairs to breakfast in fear that she would get sick again, but when she woke up she wanted to get in the bath and became very lively. We appreciate the well wishes and prayers for us.
We went to breakfast and she ate very little compared to her normal feedings. We were not going to let her eat what has become her normal meal; eggs, noodles, rice and fruit. We just stuck to some noodles, rice and dry cereal. She didn’t touch the rice, nibbled on her noodles and played with the cereal. When Rodney’s eggs were brought to the table, she didn’t pay them much attention…which is not normal for her. I knew she was still feeling bad, but she was pushing. She no longer ran a fever, but we didn’t want to push her. We came back to the room and just let her “chill”. She wanted some crackers and granola bar. She ate those fine and kept them down….good so far.
She became quite restless in the room so we decided to go out around noon. We dropped off some laundry and went into a couple of shops nearby. It wasn’t long until she began to whine and felt a little warm again. We made our way back to the room and she drank some tea and ate some more crackers. Sometimes she gets very “wild”; thrashing herself on my chest, whining, even at times scratching at me, but she isn’t angry, she acts as though she just doesn’t know what to do. She will bang her head into my chest one second and then rub my face the next, caress my hair and then scratch my neck. I know when she begins to act this way, nap time is upon us. I get her blanket and we set in the corner of the sectional sofa. She fusses for a minute and then she was out. I put her in her crib and she is napping very peacefully and cool…thank God!
I haven’t taken that first picture so far today. And since we really haven’t done much I thought I would share the pictures with you that we took on our shopping day. We wanted to get Elli the same type gifts from China that we purchased for Anna. We asked specifically to go to the pearl market and the porcelain house.
We first went to the pearl market which is amazing to see. Vendor after vendor with strands upon strands of pearls. We went to the same vendor that we purchased from on our previous trip and got Elli a strand of pearls for a necklace and a strand for a bracelet and earrings. Next was the porcelain house where we would purchase a porcelain piece, tea set and jade.
I didn’t take a picture of her tea set, which I can do when we get home and share later. They packed it all up for us and I wouldn’t dare unpack it in fear of it breaking. It is a lovely set that was hand painted. We picked the same style of porcelain that we purchased Anna. For Anna we purchased a lady playing an instrument because she loved and still does love music. For Elli we picked a lady with an abacus because she is sooo bright. Her jade is a small circle that I trusted Connie to pick out. I told her our budget and she did the rest. I don’t know the good qualities of jade like Connie, so I trusted her judgment again, just as with Anna’s. When I think of jade, I think of the dark green…not so. True Chinese Jade doesn’t have that dark green quality. It is a lighter green and white swirl type. IF, you were to have a true green solid piece of Chinese Jade, it would be very, very expensive because it is sooo rare. The green jade that we see is so many of the shops here in China and in the States as well, is either New Zealand Jade, which is softer or it is colored stone. At least that is what I have been told ;-)
I love going to the porcelain house because there are so many nice things there was made by local artists…many of which are from Foshan which is where Anna is from. They are very famous for their artisans. Here are a few of the pictures of some of my favorite things.

This microsculpting is called Shi Wan Figurines. It began in the Ming Dynasty (1368 - 1644 AD) All the tiny detials are sculpted from clay.
Painting inside the bottle. Such a skilled trade to be painting a panda bear and a basketball, but I guess that sells...
You can see the symbol in the center of her chest...backwards from the symbol of the Nazis. In anciet China, it is a symbol of strength..of course if you have watched the DaVinci Code, you already know that....
Carter, Jacob, Parker & Anna,
Only 2 full days left here in Guangzhou!!! We fly out early Thursday morning and can’t wait to see you Thursday night – your time ;-) I dread the long trip, about 24 hours again, but I know it will be sooo worth it to finally see you guys again. Thank you for praying for Elli…it helped I know! We love you!
Sending love & hugs to Carter, Jacob, Parker & Anna,
Rodney, Marcy & Elli
p.s.
Rodney said that I needed to give Lucy’s her props…they opened back up for business after their renovations, well they opened partially. Half of the sitting area is still closed. We have eaten there twice and it has been good. We won’t order the hamburger again, but their fries, chicken quesadillas, stir fried broccoli, rice and sweet and sour pork was good…so, Lucy we are sorry we bashed you!! Please forgive us and we will be back tonight ;-)

I am so glad that Elli is feeling better. Hopefully she will be completely better by Thursday. I love all the pieces you took pictures of. I wish I could've spent more time in Guangzhou. I guess I will just have to go back!
I'm glad to hear that Elli is feeling some better. I didn't realize you were flying out so soon (I'm sure it doesn't seem that SOON to you!), so I'll definitely pray that she improves completely before the trip. Thanks for sharing the pictures. Such pretty art pieces!
Yay, so glad to hear Miss E is doing better. It sounds like her thrashing around thing is just a response to stress and fatigue....she has done SO WELL...after so much stress, bless her heart. You are handling it all so well. I loved seeing the familiar pictures of the Porcelain market, that was one of my favorite places we went last time! And I'm glad Lucy's is back to normal. I loved me some Lucy's quesadillas last time....I liked their ham and pineapple pizza too. I never ate their hamburgers, they looked funky to me. Have you been to Starbucks yet? You haven't mentioned that one. You are on the homestretch, almost done! Love ya!

Marcy,
I've been just dying because my internet has been down through your WHOLE trip - so this morning when it started working again I was finally able to get on and your site was the first one I opened! I'm so happy for you! I think somehow, someway, we need to get our girls together. Everything you say about Elli reminds me of Xian (broken crayons, half eaten chapstick, gulping down tea, etc). They would have so much fun.
Reading your blog makes me wish I was back in Guangzhou again. Thanks for all the pictures - seeing them makes it like being there.
Alicia
P.S. Just wanted to say that if you're hungry, I agree with Momtofour - the quesadillas at Lucy's were great!
